Camden County, Ga., is preparing for a celebration of its recertification as the nation’s first designated Coast Guard Community this fall, The Brunswick News reports. The recertification is designed to ensure the county is active in its support for Coast Guard units operating in the area.  Sheila McNeill, director of The Camden Partnership, an organization that supports the region’s sea services said the recertification package was “massive.” “I am proud that this community continues to support the Coast Guard as well as our Navy and Marine Corps,” she said. “We will be planning an event worthy of this designation in the fall.”…
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J, took a major step forward in its environmental cleanup late last month with the removal of lead-contaminated soil, The Burlington County Times reported. The $1.96 million project on the McGuire Air Force Base part of the installation came 20 years after its listing as a Superfund National Priorities site. The work includes soil removal from a former skeet-shooting range where the lead-contaminated soil presents an “unacceptable risk to human health and the environment,” according to an Air Force project memorandum…
Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, Ga., kicked off its installation ride-share program, Commute With Enterprise earlier this month, Fort Stewart Public Affairs reported. The program is part of DOD’s ride-sharing initiative designed to help save money, reduce pollution, traffic congestion and stress. “It helps reduce traffic and reduces our carbon footprint,” said Claudia O’Meara, one of the program’s first riders. “Besides, it’s nice not having to drive all the time.” DOD employees interested in the program can learn more at the MTBP website, Commute with Enterprise.
