New Initiative Shifts Management of Army’s Unaccompanied Housing to Company Level

The Army established a new program earlier this month to shift management of the service’s unaccompanied housing facilities from the brigade level to the company level. The Army Barracks Management Program streamlines management of day-to-day barracks operations and “improves facilities and furnishings stewardship and increases senior leader visibility of barracks management,” according to a commentary by Lt. Gen. Gwen Bingham, assistant chief of staff for installation management. The Army plans to reach initial operating capability for the initiative by July 31, and full operating capability by July 31, 2019, Bingham says.
