The Air Force has issued a request for information (RFI) to determine the viability of procuring reliable, locally generated electricity for Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., from an off-site facility developed and operated by a contractor. The plant would need to provide non-interruptible primary power and an islanding capability in the event of a utility grid outage. The Air Force would enter into a power purchase agreement with the contractor. Responses to the RFI are due June 1. … T-Mobile plans to invest $500 million this year to lay the foundation for 5G coverage, the next generation of ultrafast wireless technology, in military installations and their host communities, the wireless carrier announced last month. This week T-Mobile said its planned merger with Sprint would position the combined company to create a nationwide 5G network needed to support mobile devices and the Internet of things. … Puget Sound Naval Shipyard this week began recruiting more than 530 entry-level employees as the Bremerton, Wash., shipyard’s workforce continues to expand in response to an increased workload. The shipyard added almost 2,000 workers last year, bringing total employment to a recent peak of more than 13,700 civilian employees, reports the Kitsap Sun.
