In Other News: Connecticut Sub Base Marks Sesquicentennial

During its first 50 years, the Navy base in Groton, Conn., wasn’t particularly important. But over the past 100 years, Naval Submarine Base New London has grown in prominence, with the nation’s submarine fleet playing a significant role in projecting power. State and local leaders, along with Navy officials, gathered outside the Submarine Force Museum last week to recognize the base’s past as they celebrated the 150th anniversary of the deed of gift from the state and the city of New London establishing a naval yard and storage depot on the Thames River, reported the Day.
