Lendlease and Ameresco are partnering to provide a variety of energy efficiency improvements and new solar energy systems to more than 5,800 homes at multiple Army installations on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The $150 million project will follow the energy savings performance contract model and is intended to slash energy consumption at Island Palm Communities by one-third and help the development become a net zero energy residential community, according to a press release. Improvements will include highly-efficient HVAC systems, housing envelope improvements, water conservation, residential and street lighting improvements through LED lighting technology, and the installation of 6.1 megawatts of rooftop photovoltaic energy systems. … The city of San Antonio and Joint Base San Antonio have entered into a formal agreement to connect the portions of the Salado Creek Greenway running north and south of Fort Sam Houston. The agreement calls for the city to demolish equestrian facilities located on the post that lie in the trail’s path, reported 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs. “It’s a win-win situation for the city and for us — and the horses as well,” said 502nd Force Support Group Executive Director Serafina de los Santos. “Currently proposed, the horses get 30 to 40 new paddocks, and service members get the use of a brand new trail for hiking and biking.”
