An association of utilities and federal agencies are partnering to provide transitional career training and counseling to help military veterans obtain jobs in the energy industry.
The Troops to Energy Jobs program will be managed by the Center for Energy Workforce Development — a nonprofit consortium of electric, natural gas and nuclear utilities — in conjunction with the Defense, Labor and Energy departments, community colleges and other groups. Initially the program will include selected pilot utilities before it is expanded across the entire energy industry, according to the White House’s Joining Forces blog.
The program will help accelerate veterans’ attainment of associate degrees by applying their military education and experience toward college credit. The curriculum will be available online and will be designed to bridge the gaps between veterans’ backgrounds and the skills needed for specific energy careers.
