Officials from Lend Lease (U.S.) Public Partnerships, InterContinental Hotels Group and the Army held a groundbreaking ceremony last week for a Candlewood Suites hotel at Fort Hood, Texas.
The new 93-room, extended-stay hotel is designed to meet the needs of military travelers and will feature spacious studios or one-bedroom suites, fully-equipped kitchens and large work areas in each guest room.
“This hotel … will be a home away from home for military personnel and their families for years to come,” said Lend Lease development manager Kate Alger, reported the Killeen Daily Herald.
The project is part of the Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) initiative, a partnership between the Army and a joint venture between Lend Lease and InterContinental, which operates the PAL hotels under the IHG Army Hotels name.
Lend Lease closed on the second phase of the PAL program — which calls for renovating and developing rooms at lodging facilities at 11 posts — last June. The program now covers 8,200 hotel rooms at 21 installations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. A map of the installations in the PAL program is available on the IHG Army Hotels website.
