Bidders Fall Short in Auction for Stratford Plant

The General Services Administration declined the two bids it received in last month’s auction for the Stratford Army Engine Plant, marking the second time in three years the federal government has failed to complete a sale of the Connecticut property. In 2008, a New Haven-based film production studio submitted the winning $9.6 million bid for the site before the deal collapsed when the developer failed to obtain the necessary financing.

Meanwhile, the town of Stratford is urging the Army to transfer parcels with little or no contamination to the community and to clean up the remaining property, reported the Connecticut Post.
