Education Secretary Participates in Town Hall at MCAS Yuma

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan participated in a town hall meeting last week at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., where the quality of education for military dependents was the chief concern of military families and local education officials.

Duncan — whose visit was part of the “Strong Start, Bright Future” annual back-to-school bus tour — underscored the detrimental impact of sequestration on schools in military communities that rely on federal impact aid.

“To see sequestration take those scarce resources away is absolute nonsense, absolutely infuriating,” said Duncan, reported DOD. “I keep pushing folks in Congress on both sides of the aisle to get out of Washington and spend time in real communities and see what the impact of their dysfunction has on kids.”
