Navy Issues Impact Statement for Reuse of Hunters Point

The Navy this week issued a draft supplemental environmental impact statement for the disposal and reuse of the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. The document assesses the transfer of the shipyard — 421 acres of dry land and 443 submerged acres — and its subsequent redevelopment by the city of San Francisco. The city most recently updated the site’s reuse plan last August. The impact statement is a supplement to the Navy’s final environmental impact statement issued in March 2000, according to the Feb. 23 Federal Register notice.
