Opponents to Airport at Willow Grove Gain Strength

The Hatboro-Horsham School Board on Monday became the latest local entity to go on record opposing converting Naval Air Station Willow Grove into a civilian airport, joining Horsham, Warminster and Montgomery townships in suburban Philadelphia in voting against using the facility’s airfield as an airport.

Many residents and local officials have said they oppose continued use of the runway after the base is closed, although the Bucks County Airport Authority has applied as part of the local screening process to acquire the airfield for use as a general aviation airport, reports the Hatboro-Horsham Patch.

The Horsham LRA has until the end of the year to determine which of the 17 local agencies and nonprofits applying for public benefit conveyances at the 890-acre base will be approved and to submit a reuse plan to DOD.
