The LRA for the former Naval Air Station Willow Grove is eager to move ahead with the redevelopment process as several milestones approach.
The Navy is expected to release shortly the environmental impact statement for the property located outside of Philadelphia. “I’m still hoping this month,” Horsham LRA Executive Director Mike McGee told the Hatboro-Horsham Patch. “We certainly want to know what they say about our plan.”
The LRA may submit its application for an economic development conveyance to the Navy in January, provided it has sufficient time to review the environmental impact statement. The authority’s consultant is scheduled to present its findings regarding property transfer later this month.
McGee expects the Navy to transfer the 862-acre property by the end of 2014 or early 2015.
The cleanup of three remaining sites — two former landfills and a former fire training center — are among the final hurdles to the LRA obtaining the property from the Navy. Navy officials also are preparing a base-wide radiological management plan that will review 18 potentially contaminated sites, according to the story.
