The LRA for the former Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove approved its economic development conveyance application Wednesday, marking the first step in the process to obtain 862 acres at the base from the Navy.
Next up will be negotiations between the two parties over the value of the property and other terms.
The Horsham Land Redevelopment Authority could obtain the first parcel at the air base, located outside of Philadelphia, before the end of the calendar year, reported the Hatboro-Horsham Patch.
The LRA’s board also approved a solicitation to identify a master developer to convert the property into a mix of residential, commercial and other uses. That is scheduled to go out shortly.
“This is a big undertaking,” said LRA Executive Director Mike McGee. “There’s not a whole lot of entities who have the cash capitalized to this extent.”
