Representatives from the Tampa Bay Defense Alliance, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and MacDill AFB celebrated being named to the 2018 class of Great American Defense Communities (GADC) on Veterans Day at the NFL game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Redskins. ADC President Bill Parry and a representative from USAA presented the GADC banner to the community leaders at halftime. Halftime also featured an enlistment ceremony for 200 inductees from all branches conducted by Gen. Joseph Votel, the head of U.S. Central Command. Tampa Bay is one of five communities that make up the 2018 class of GADC, a program recognizing the unique contributions made by communities that host military installations to improve quality of life for service members and their families.
Sunday’s celebration was held in conjunction with the NFL’s Salute to Service initiative, which included a variety of military appreciation tributes at the game.
