Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) withdrew his hold Wednesday on the nomination of Marine Corps Lt. Gen. David Berger to become the service’s next commandant, allowing Berger’s Senate confirmation to move ahead this week, Military Times reported.
Sullivan said Wednesday he had worked out his concerns with Marine Corps officials, but did not offer his reason for objecting to Berger replacing Gen. Robert Neller as the service’s top military officer.
Sullivan only said that the issue “is between me and Gen. Berger,” according to the report.
Berger’s Senate confirmation could be finalized as early as this week unless another lawmaker raises concerns.
