The Fort Ord Reuse Authority oversees Monterey Bay Region’s economic recovery from former Fort Ord 1994 closure. The 28,000-acre former Fort Ord is on the California coastline near the Monterey Peninsula. The nation’s largest (by area) military closure recovery effort has achieved many notable milestones including: 5000 new jobs; the now 7,000 student CSU Monterey Bay (as the reuse  centerpiece); over $200M in infrastructure investment (32 miles of new roadways); $98M privatized munitions remediation; President Obama designation of the 14,658-acre Fort Ord National Monument; the 1000-acre Fort Ord Dunes Beach; 1000 new homes, 1500 military housing units replaced, re-occupancy of 3,000 apartments; California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery; the nation’s first Joint DoD/VA Medical Clinic; and APA National Awards for Best Practices (Regional Urban Design Guidelines – 2016) and Large Scale Planning (Base Reuse Plan – 1999). Fort Polk Progress (FPP) is a regional organization focused on coordinating the efforts of the local communities, State of Louisiana and the Louisiana Congressional delegation on supporting the Army, the mission at Ft Polk, and the quality of life for soldiers and families stationed in Louisiana.  Ft. Polk continues to be the largest employer in Louisiana as well as the largest single economic impact.

Since its inception in 2006, FPP and its member partners have participated in joint efforts with the State of Louisiana to increase infrastructure investments in the off-base communities.  Within the last 4 years, this partnership effort has resulted in more than $40mil in water, sewer and road improvements.  In addition, the local and state partners have invested more than $45mil in new schools.  When the Army expressed an interest in expanding geographically, FPP worked with its partners again to assist in the success of the program, which has resulted in more than 47,000 new training acres for our military partners.  In addition, FPP is leading an Education Initiative that is supporting schools in the effort to achieve constant academic improvement.  Over $2mil in education grants were awarded in 2016 alone.

With the significant relationships that FPP has fostered at all levels, we are better prepared than ever to combat the challenges that we now face. In a challenging budget environment for our military partners, Ft Polk Progress communities have aggressively pursued Shared Services agreements that are resulting in millions in annual savings for Ft Polk.  FPP will continue to improve military family quality of life, support the assigned missions and work to secure future mission opportunities for Ft Polk, Louisiana.


The Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership, a program of the Greater Omaha Chamber, embraces an innovative two-state, regional approach to economic development, increasing jobs and investment in eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa by providing a full range of economic development services. The Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission (MMPEC) is a nine-member, state-level entity appointed by the Governor and leaders of the Missouri House and Senate.  MMPEC’s statutory responsibility is to provide leadership in the state’s efforts to preserve and enhance military installations, missions and agencies, to encourage the growth of defense businesses, and create a supportive environment for Service members, their families, and retirees.  The Missouri Military Advocate, who is appointed directly by the Governor, serves as executive director for MMPEC.  Consistent with law, MMPEC’s mission involves advising the governor and the general assembly on military issues and related economic and industrial development opportunities; making specific recommendations to policy makers regarding military and defense challenges and opportunities in Missouri; providing information and assistance to communities and other stakeholders; fostering strategic regional and state alliances; and encouraging economic development by fostering the development of industries related to defense.

The Utah Defense Alliance (UDA) is a private 501c3 non-profit organization, incorporated in October 1993.  The UDA Board of Directors is made up of between 9 and 25 at-large Directors and up to 20 ex-officio Directors.  At large Directors include local business leaders, education leaders, and retired senior military members.  Ex-officio members include city, county and state elected officials, and representatives from the offices of the Governor, United States Senate, and United States Congress.  UDA’s mission is to: support Utah military missions, workload, and force structure; expand and strengthen Utah’s defense and aerospace industry; promote the availability of a highly skilled defense/aerospace workforce; and engage local, state, and national political, DoD and business leaders when necessary to support mission related issues.
